Fernando Botero Park Library

Architects: G Ateliers Architecture

Year: 2009

San Cristobal is an urban village located on the west hills of the city of Medellin along the narrow valley of Iguaná creek. The exceptional climate condition makes this village into one of the city’s main sources of agricultural products, particularly flowers, vegetables and fruits.

Fernando Botero Park Library is the sixth library park in the city and the first located in a corregimiento of Medellin. The construction of 4,167 square meters, had an approximate cost of 18 thousand million pesos. The fernando botero library park is characterized by an enormous artistic and cultural potential.

Joan Oliver Library

Architects: RCR Arquitectes

Location: Barcelona, Spain

Site area: 417 Msq

Year: 2007

The library, named in honor of playwright and poet Joan Oliver, came about through a competition won by RCR in 2005. The original competition merely called for the design of an administrative building. Once the spatial and social opportunities of the architects’ proposal were understood, the commissioning body agreed that urban amenities, a library and senior citizens center, would be more appropriate for the site and the neighborhood. The architects sought to make the street more dynamic and to open up the inner courtyard for public use, as well as to create a library.
